Andrea Beesley (1945–2020), teacher of the Alexander Technique and Head of Training.
Andrea Beesley was introduced to the Alexander Technique in 1971 or ’72 by her brother, Roderick Beesley, a teacher of the Technique.[1]
Andrea Beesley trained to be a teacher of the Technique in 1974 with Walter Carrington at the Constructive Teaching Centre, London. On finishing she assisted Walter Carrington on the training course every day for seven years while also teaching privately. In 1984 she emigrated to Australia. She worked at the first Alexander Technique training course in Australia which had multiple Heads of Training. She then co-directed a teachers training course with Christine (‘Kri’) Ackers, the Sydney Alexander Teacher Training School, a continuation of the Sydney Alexander Teaching Associates.[2] From 1987 to 2001 Andrea Beesley was Director of the Centre for Alexander Technique Studies, assisted by Karyn Chapman and Carolyn Jamieson.
In 2004 Andrea Beesley moved to Paris. She had intended to open a training school but instead worked regularly at the ETAPP training school as well as teaching privately.
She produced a short-lived newsletter in Australia, The Alexander Technique Rag – Forward and Up Down Under.
